Is an Interpretation Really a Poem?

I don't know, call me old fashioned, but in my day, the act of writing poetry meant leaving the reader room for interpretation the fascist new American aesthetic is dangerous to a society that is still healing from past trauma. Such technology could cause unintended deaths that cost thousands of dollars to settle. If we don't get a hold of the tort system, we'll just sue ourselves into oblivion. Even the poor need money.

While most of you are probably excited about the New American poetics, I find it deeply concerning. Earlier poets often withheld their own agency to allow the reader a space to grow. The New American poetics is as closed as a poem can be. There's barely room for interpretation. The poem is an interpretation.

Essentially, the New American poetics thinks you're so stupid that it has to tell you what to do. You can't figure it out for yourself, idiot, so here's a fiction to think about.

Poetry is not interpretation. Poetry demands interpretation. The New American poetics puts everything in the wrong place
